How do I configure the platform to send SMS with an external gateway (Mail Transport Method)?

HSNM Hotspot Manager can send SMS, for example, to provide username and password or notifications to guests, using an external SMS Gateway or a USB modem/dongle directly connected to HSNM. 

Configuration with an external gateway can be made either at the system/admin level under System Settings or under the Reseller and Manager level. 

Use the below steps to configure HSNM to send SMS using an external gateway: 

  1. Log in to your HSNM using a web browser. 
  2. On the Admin tab, click System settings>SMS Gateway Type field and choose Mail Transport. 
  3. In the Sender Email Address field, set the mail address to use for sending the mail (generally, you should agree on this with the SMS provider). 
  4. In the Recipient’s Address field, set the mail address to send the mail (generally in the form %Number%@YourSMSProvider.xxx or %NumberNoIntPrefix%@ YourSMSProvider.xxx, where instead of %Number% or %NumberNoIntPrefix% HSNM will enter the guest’s mobile number to send SMS). 
  5. In the Email Subject field, put the mail Subject (if the SMS provider needs it). 
  6. In the Gateway Password field, put the password, if needed, required by your SMS provider.
  7. Go to the SMS section and set your mobile phone number. 
  8. Click Save in the top right corner.

Now you can try to send a test SMS by going to Utility Functions, and then on Send a Test SMS. 

To allow the system to send SMS to guests, you need to give/provide SMS credit to the manager. To do this, there are two ways: 

  1. Log in to HSNM using a manager account, go to the manager contextual menu and then click on Buy SMS. 
  2. Log in to HSNM using an admin account, edit the manager for which you want to provide SMS, go to the SMS Gateway section and set Total Number of SMS Purchased as the number of SMS messages you want to provide.

How can my reseller or manager configure the device to send SMS with an external gateway?

The external gateway edited at the manager level takes precedence over the reseller level.

To perform the configuration at the reseller or manager level, follow these steps:

  1. Click the dropdown menu starting from the reseller or manager level.
  2. Click Edit>SMS Gateway.
  3. In the SMS Gateway Type field, select Mail Transport.
  4. In the Number field, define the phone number associated with the gateway to receive SMS.
  5. In the Sender Email Address field, set the mail address for sending the mail.
  6. In the Recipient’s Address field, set the mail address to send the mail.
  7. In the Email Subject field, edit the mail Subject.

If there aren’t any SMS settings at the manager level, HSNM will use the once set at reseller or system level.
